Each LifePath Portfolio mutual fund invests all of its assets in a separate mutual fund, called a LifePath Master portfolio, that has a substantially identical investment objective as the LifePath Portfolio. Each master portfolio, in turn, invests in a combination of equity funds, fixed income funds, and money market funds ("Underlying Funds") in proportions based on its own comprehensive investment strategy. BlackRock Fund Advisors is the investment adviser to the Master Portfolios and each of the Underlying Funds.
The LifePath Portfolio mutual funds are distributed by BlackRock Investments, LLC ("BRIL"), member FINRA. BlackRock Fund Advisors ("BFA") serves as the investment adviser to LifePath Portfolio mutual funds, and the Master Portfolios, in which each LifePath Portfolio invests all of its assets and to the Underlying Funds in which the Master Portfolios invest.
The principal value is not guaranteed at any time, including at the target date. This material is not an offer to sell, or an invitation to apply for any particular product or service.
The target date in the funds name is the approximate date an investor plans to start withdrawing money.
Each LifePath Portfolio has a different level of risk. An investment in the LifePath Portfolios is subject to stock market risk, which means the price of the stocks in which the Underlying Funds invest may fluctuate or fall in response to economic events or trends. The prices of bonds in which the Underlying Funds invest may fall because of a rise in interest rates. Investments in foreign securities by the Underlying Funds are subject to certain special risks and considerations, including potentially less liquidity and greater price volatility than securities traded in the U.S. markets.
LifePath seeks to provide a diversified asset allocation solution that adjusts overtime to appropriately balance growing investments when young and a more conservative risk allocation when approaching retirement. LifePath does so by following a glidepath, which establishes how much risk individuals should take at each point over the course of an individual’s lifetime. Through this process, LifePath seeks to help individuals prepare for retirement through their accumulation and decumulation phases.
The LifePath Portfolios must maintain cash balances to meet redemption requests, which may lower overall portfolio performance.
The LifePath products are covered by US patent 8,645,254. Other patents pending.
Target date funds are actively managed and their characteristics will vary.
Fund of funds are subject to the risks associated with the underlying BlackRock funds in which it invests.
Stock values fluctuate in price so the value of your investment can go down depending on market conditions.
Fixed income risks include interest-rate and credit risk. Typically, when interest rates rise, there is a corresponding decline in bond values. Credit risk refers to the possibility that the bond issuer will not be able to make principal and interest payments.
Asset allocation models and diversification do not promise any level of performance or guarantee against loss of principal. Investment in the funds is subject to the risks of the underlying funds. The principal value of the funds is not guaranteed at any time, including at and after the target date.
