Investment Approach

BlackRock Science and Technology Term Trust’s (BSTZ) (the “Trust”) investment objectives are to provide total return and income primarily through long-term capital appreciation. Under normal market conditions, the Trust will invest at least 80% of its total assets in equity securities issued by U.S. and non-U.S. science and technology companies in any market capitalization range, selected for their rapid and sustainable growth potential from the development, advancement and use of science and/or technology.

Tony Kim, Managing Director, is Head of the Global Technology Team within the Fundamental Equities division of BlackRock’s Portfolio Management Group. He is lead portfolio manager of the BlackRock Technology Opportunities Fund and related global strategies.


Mr. Kim joined BlackRock in 2013. His 30 years of experience in technology investments also includes key roles at Artisan Partners, Credit Suisse Asset Management, Neuberger Berman, Merrill Lynch and SG Warburg. 

 

Mr. Kim is a member of the Advisory Board for Columbia Business School’s Digital Future Initiative, which brings together Columbia faculty members and leaders from across industries to help organizations, governments and communities optimize and accelerate the technological advances of the future.

 

Mr. Kim earned a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Columbia University.

Reid Menge, Managing Director, is a member of the Fundamental Equities division of BlackRock’s Portfolio Management Group. He is the head of the Fundamental US Growth Team and lead portfolio manager of the BlackRock Capital Appreciation, Large Cap Focus Growth and BlackRock Mid-Cap Growth Equity funds. Mr. Menge is also co-portfolio manager for the Technology equity portfolios. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2014, he was an associate director of equity research at UBS covering global technology. From 2006 to 2009, Mr. Menge was an investment research analyst at Citigroup responsible for global software. From 2003 to 2006, he was a member of the Prudential Equity Group where he was responsible for enterprise software coverage. Mr. Menge began his investment career in 2001 at Credit Suisse First Boston as an analyst for fixed income sales.
