Investment Approach

BlackRock Income Trust, Inc.’s (BKT) (the 'Trust') investment objective is to manage a portfolio of high-quality securities to achieve both preservation of capital and high monthly income. The Trust seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing at least 65% of its assets in mortgage-backed securities. The Trust invests at least 80% of its assets in securities that are (i) issued or guaranteed by the US government or one of its agencies or instrumentalities or (ii) rated at the time of investment either AAA by S&P or Aaa by Moody’s. The Trust may invest directly in such securities or synthetically through the use of derivatives.

Matthew Kraeger, Managing Director, is co-head of the Agency Mortgage Team and lead portfolio manager for US Mortgage portfolios within BlackRock’s Global Fixed Income (GFI) platform.

 

Mr. Kraeger has been a portfolio manager within the US Mortgage Team since 2004, serving as a portfolio manager across both institutional accounts and retail funds. He is a senior portfolio manager on the BlackRock Mortgage-Backed Securities Fund, the BlackRock Securitized Income Fund and BlackRock’s Income Trust, a mortgage focused closed-end fund.

 

Mr. Kraeger began his investment career as an analyst in BlackRock's trade operations department in 2000, joined the Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG) in 2002 and the US Mortgage Team in 2004. Mr. Kraeger earned a BS degree in finance from Syracuse University.

Nicholas Kramvis, Director, is a portfolio manager on the Agency Mortgage Team within BlackRock's Global Fixed Income (GFI) platform. 

 

Nicholas joined BlackRock in May 2016, and focuses on Agency MBS alpha strategies, as well as the management and execution of Agency Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (“CMOs”) and Derivatives. Nicholas is a portfolio manager on the BlackRock Mortgage-Backed Securities Fund and a co-lead portfolio manager on the BlackRock Income Trust, a mortgage focused closed-end fund.

 

Prior to joining BlackRock, Nicholas was a Vice President at Barclays, where he had been a member of the Agency CMO Trading and Structuring Desk since 2008. At Barclays, he was responsible for the active management and trading of the Agency Mortgage Derivatives book as well as for identifying collateral and structures for new issue CMOs. Nicholas started his career on the Agency MBS desk at Lehman Brothers in 2007. 

 

Nicholas graduated from the University of Chicago in 2007, majoring in Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics.
