Alain Kerneis, PhD, Managing Director, is Head of Strategy and Market Views within BlackRock Client Solutions, which is responsible for developing, assembling and managing investment solutions involving multiple strategies and asset classes for the firm's largest institutional clients. Dr. Kerneis is Co-chair of BlackRock's Capital Market Assumption Group, which formulates long-term assumptions for asset return, risk and correlation.

 

Prior to joining BlackRock in 2014, Dr. Kerneis served as the Chief Investment Officer for Goldman Sachs Asset Management's UK and Dutch delegated CIO mandates. He worked closely with clients' investment committees covering strategic asset allocation, liability driven investing (LDI), currency hedging, portfolio construction and tactical asset allocation. Dr. Kerneis authored and co-authored numerous papers regarding strategic topics and market outlook while at GSAM. Prior to his role as CIO, he served as a global strategist in Goldman Sachs' sell-side research division from 2000 to 2005. He focused on tactical idea generation across sovereign, credit, equity, commodity and cash, including the design of market timing models, portfolio construction and derivatives implementation. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he worked as a quantitative strategist at Commerzbank Securities and Citibank Global Asset Management.

 

Dr. Kerneis serves as Chairman of Governors at Copthorne Preparatory School, an independent school in West Sussex. He is also a regular speaker at internal as well as industry conferences. Dr. Kerneis earned in 1994 a PhD degree in statistics applied to chemistry, from AgroParisTech, France, for his work on the monitoring of health risks in drinking water.
