Head of the Global Client Business
Mark Wiedman, Senior Managing Director, is head of the Global Client Business, and a member of the Global Executive Committee. Mark is responsible for BlackRock’s asset management business worldwide.
Since 2019, he has sponsored BlackRock’s build-out in the transition to a low carbon economy, growing sustainable investments from $107 billion to $1 trillion. He led the creation of Decarbonization Partners, a growth equity joint venture with Temasek, with a first fund of $1.4 billion.
From 2011 to 2019, he was Global Head of iShares and Index Investments and drove its globalization and growth from $500 billion to $1.7 trillion.
He joined the firm in 2004 to help start Financial Markets Advisory and led BlackRock’s emergency assistance to governments and financial institutions during the financial crisis. Mark led BlackRock's 2008 creation of Penny Mac, now the #2 U.S. mortgage bank, and served on its board 2008-2019.
He sponsored the Women’s Accelerator, SOMOS (the Latino & Allies Network), and the Out & Allies Network.
Before BlackRock, he was Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance at the U.S. Treasury and a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He serves on the boards of Decarbonization Partners, the National Committee for U.S.-China Relations, and Focusing Capital on the Long-Term (FCLT).
He earned an AB degree, Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, in Social Studies from Harvard College in 1992, and a JD degree from Yale Law School in 1996. He has taught courses in finance and law at Yale Law and Renmin University in Beijing.
