Deputy General Counsel

Benjamin Archibald is the Deputy General Counsel of BlackRock and is responsible for day-to-day oversight of the legal teams supporting BlackRock’s global asset management and technology businesses.

A member of the BlackRock’s Global Executive Committee, Ben also serves on the firm’s Global Corporate Operations, Valuation Policy and Oversight and Public Policy Operating Committees, and the Legal & Compliance Executive Committee. 

Ben was based in London and served as General Counsel for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for BlackRock for three years prior to his current role. Before he joined BlackRock in 2010 to support the cash management, iShares and registered funds businesses, he was the General Counsel of a start-up fund of hedge funds. At Goldman Sachs Asset Management in New York and London, he focused on registered investment companies and hedge funds.

Ben serves as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Abraham Joshua Heschel School, a pluralistic Jewish day school in Manhattan. 

Ben is a graduate of McGill University's Faculty of Law (Distinction) where he served as an Editor of the Law Review and holds a B.A. with Honors and Distinction from Concordia University and an MSc with Merit from the London School of Economics and Political Science in Political Philosophy.
