Global Head of Real Asset Securities Management

Mark Howard-Johnson, CFA, Managing Director, is the Global Head of Real Asset Securities Management for BlackRock's Real Assets and a member of the Real Estate Global Executive Committee. The Real Asset Securities team is the result of a joint venture between the real asset and fundamental equity groups. Mr. Howard-Johnson's responsibilities include developing and overseeing the investment team and its process as well as the creation of various public real estate securities products to be made available to both the retail and institutional channels. Mr. Howard-Johnson, along with his co-Global CIO's, remains the fiduciary on all investment accounts while maintaining coverage of certain sectors within the North American region.

 

Mr. Howard-Johnson's service with the firm dates back to May 2012. Previously, he was the Chief Investment Officer for the real estate securities team at Building and Land Technology, where he was responsible for launching its real estate securities management effort. He also served as Global Head and Chief Investment Officer for the Real Estate Securities Team at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Over his more than ten-year tenure, Mr. Howard-Johnson oversaw the launch of the business and grew it to over $5 billion in AUM. Its flagship offering, a US total return strategy, produced top quintile performance while consistently besting its index, averaging nearly 200 bps per annum of gross out-performance over the ten years.

 

Mr. Howard-Johnson is an active member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and sits on the Investment Advisory Council. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College.
