Old Age Security

The Old Age Security (OAS) program is the Government of Canada’s largest pension program, providing monthly payments to Canadians age 65 and older who apply and meet certain requirements.

Unlike the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), payments are not tied to your past employment, but funded out of the general revenues of the federal government. A person does not need to be retired from a job to qualify for OAS, nor do they necessarily need to be living in Canada when collecting.
