About the fund

The BlackRock Concentrated Industrial Share Fund ("fund") is a long only, concentrated portfolio of Australian shares. The fund excludes all companies within the resources sector and the top five industrial stocks by market capitalisation.

The fund is managed by an experienced team that adheres to an investment process focused on capital preservation and delivering returns in excess of the fund’s benchmark. The team will only invest in companies that first satisfy its five quality filters.

Five Quality Filters

Investment Objective

The fund aims to deliver returns that are 4-6% (before fees) per annum above those of the S&P/ASX 300 Industrials Accumulation Index ex top 5 stocks by market capitalisation over rolling 3-year periods.

Why the BlackRock Concentrated Industrial Share Fund?

As the world’s largest asset manager2, BlackRock offers global market insights and resources as well as the market leading risk management platform, Aladdin. This support enables the investment team to focus on identifying the best investment opportunities.

In addition, the team’s access to the management of the companies they are researching is facilitated by being part of BlackRock.

BlackRock has a culture that is aligned with clients’ investment goals and success. To this point, the portfolio management team will make investments into the fund alongside clients.

  • Disciplined approach with high conviction ideas

This fund follows a disciplined investment process and will typically consist of 20 – 40 stocks. The concentrated nature of the fund ensures a deep knowledge of the companies that are held.

  • Greater diversification and greater potential to add value

Typically Australian investors are overexposed to the top 5 Australian industrial stocks as well as the large Australian mining companies. The fund offers diversification to investors by focussing on quality Australian industrial stocks with the exclusion of the top 5 stocks. As at the date of launch of the fund, these stocks are ANZ, CBA, NAB, Westpac and Telstra. We believe this approach leads to a more diversified portfolio that focuses on uncovering opportunities outside these major stocks.

  • Experienced investment team

Headed by Senior Portfolio Manager, Charles Lanchester, the team are all experienced investment professionals with a disciplined approach in fundamental research analysis. The team has a collective investment experience of more than 50 years. In his previous role, Charles was a long standing member of the Australian equities team at Perpetual Investments. He was the Portfolio Manager of their Industrial Share Fund for ten years as well as Deputy Head of Equities. Madeleine Beaumont has experience in both Australia and overseas, including Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, M&G Investments and Natural Capital Funds Management. Sam Theodore previously worked at UBS where he received numerous analyst awards in various categories.
