At iShares, ETF portfolio management is anything but passive. Our proprietary management platform, Aladdin, brings together people, processes and systems to support a seamless investment process.

iShares portfolio engineers monitor over 25 metrics 24/7 to ensure our ETF portfolios meet their investment goals and track indices. Our teams manage thousands of index event and corporate actions each year in a seamless process incorporating data validation and trading expertise.

Blackrock has a strong presence in the APAC region with over 50 equity traders and more than 80 fixed income traders across four locations. The local knowledge of our global investment experts, leveraging a seamless portfolio management system help us deliver quality outcomes for our ETF clients.

Innovation

iShares has been a leader in the Australian ETF marketplace for almost two decades, providing portfolio building blocks for investors large and small through changing market conditions.

We’ve achieved a number of firsts in the Australian market, including being the first ETF provider to minimise the impact of foreign exchange using hedge accounting, and the first to implement a stock split to help with on-screen ETF liquidity.

Choice

iShares offers over 50 Australian-listed ETFs, including core, fixed income, factors, thematic and active ETFs.

With over 1,700 ETFs listed globally, our scale provides opportunities to bring innovative product structures to the local market that benefit Australian investors from a liquidity, scale and tax perspective.

Our timeline

Driven by a "continuous improvement" mindset, we’ve always aimed to anticipate investor needs and innovate to meet new market conditions.

Our predecessors at Wells Fargo pioneered the first index strategy. Their unit was later sold to Barclays which was then sold to BlackRock in 2009.4

Our first 17 ETFs launched in 1996, including the first international ETFs with exposure to Mexico, Canada, and Brazil, making us one of the earliest ETF innovators.5

We launched the first bond ETFs, modernising fixed income portfolios with low costs and deep liquidity.6

We debuted sustainable ETFs, helping investors target Environmental, Social, and Governance-related priorities within their portfolios.7

We launched our first ETFs in Australia comprised of 19 U.S. cross-listed ETFs.

We launched our first four locally domiciled Australian equity ETFs.

We launched the first sustainable fixed income ETFs, offering investors multiple approaches to fixed income investing.8

We created thematic ETFs, offering investors access to companies focused on long-term innovation in industries including tech, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.9

We began 2022 responsible for managing the assets of over 100 million people around the world, just 50 years after introducing our first index fund and 25 years after our first ETF client. By the end of 2022, another 5 million people chose to invest in our iShares ETFs.11

We have 55 locally listed ETFs and are the largest fixed income ETF provider in the Australian market with 13 fixed income ETFs.12

We launched the iShares US Factor Rotation Active ETF (IACT) with a listing on the ASX in mid-June.
