Co-Head of Fundamental Equities and Deputy Head of Portfolio Management Group

Philip Vasan is Deputy Head of the Portfolio Management Group for BlackRock, which encompasses Fundamental and Systematic investing across Fixed Income, Equities and Multi-Asset Strategies, and is Co-Head of Fundamental Equities, jointly responsible for the investment business globally, as well as the Private Investors business, Data Research and Strategy, and joint responsibility for BlackRock Capital Markets. He is a member of the Firm’s Global Operating Committee.

 

Mr. Vasan previously led Global Lending, Liquidity and Financing, and before that led Investments and Portfolio Solutions for BlackRock U.S. Wealth Advisory. He joined the Firm in 2016.

 

Before joining BlackRock, Mr. Vasan was with Credit Suisse and a member of the Management Committee of the Private Bank and before that the Investment Bank. He was most recently CEO of the Private Bank for Credit Suisse in the Americas. Prior to that Mr. Vasan developed and led Credit Suisse's Prime Services franchise serving hedge funds and institutional investors. Mr. Vasan also served as worldwide Head of Equity Derivatives and Convertibles, Program Trading and Proprietary Arbitrage Trading, and prior to that ran Global Foreign Exchange. Mr. Vasan also directed Credit Suisse's e-Commerce investments and managed its cost reduction program.

 

Mr. Vasan received his B.A. with High Honors from Oberlin College, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, where he was named top graduate instructor in the University. He has served as a visiting lecturer in Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management, and has lectured at the Wharton School of Business. He has also served on the Investment Committee for the Oberlin College Endowment, and is a former Director of the Managed Funds Association, which represents the global hedge fund industry and its investors to advocate for sound industry practices and public policies. Mr. Vasan is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the East Harlem School in New York City.
