One Acre Fund

We’re supporting One Acre Fund, a valued nonprofit partner that provides business solutions to smallholder farmers living in some of the most remote corners of Africa.

One Acre Fund

Farming is the primary economic activity of the world’s poor. But, too often, these farmers are limited by lack of financing, training on agricultural techniques, and market facilitation and access.

One Acre Fund provides a complete set of services within walking distance of the farmers they serve, helping to make agricultural activity significantly more productive. When farmers improve their harvests, they pull themselves out of poverty and start producing surplus food for their neighbors. When farmers prosper, they eradicate hunger in their communities.

One Acre Fund is on its way to representing Africa’s largest network of smallholder farmers. By 2020, they will serve at least 1 million farm families – with more than 5 million people living in those families. And, their farmers will produce enough surplus food to feed another 5 million of their neighbors.

One Acre Fund has a proven track-record of increasing farm incomes: in 2015 their clients – who subsist on less than $1 per day – realized an average 55% increase in income on supported activities. These gains are life-changing, ending chronic hunger and allowing for new productive allowing for new productive investments in health, education and entrepreneurial activities.

BlackRock’s financial support will fuel One Acre’s R&D efforts, allowing them to test and implement innovative, tech-driven solutions to propel their work and benefit the farmers they serve.

BlackRock’s support will help One Acre Fund deliver on its mission of putting farmers first – empowering them to build businesses, end poverty in their communities, and grow their local economies.
