Rachel Lord to Lead BlackRock in Asia-Pacific Region

BlackRock |Feb 09, 2021

Asia Pacific, February 9, 2021 – BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) today appointed Rachel Lord to lead its Asia Pacific business. She will be based in Hong Kong and serve as Chair and Head of BlackRock Asia Pacific (APAC). Her appointment is effective May 1, subject to regulatory approval. Rachel most recently headed BlackRock’s business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), driving regional business transformation over the past three years.

Mark Wiedman, BlackRock’s Head of International and of Corporate Strategy, said: “The appointment of one of the firm’s strongest leaders to head up our APAC business underscores our commitment to this fast-growing region as a top strategic priority for BlackRock. Rachel has piloted growth in assets and revenue in a complex EMEA region undergoing economic and regulatory shifts, while taking BlackRock deeper into local markets. I am excited to see Rachel’s experience and expertise and her track record in Asia paired with the strong regional leadership already in place to advance our business.

BlackRock regularly moves our key talent into new roles around the world, building a truly global team that can serve clients as a single firm.”

Rachel’s APAC experience began with ANZ Investment Bank in London helping clients in Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan to access international financing for their industrial growth. She then moved to Hong Kong where she built a number of Asian equities businesses for Morgan Stanley. She later joined Citigroup where she led the growth of global strategic equity solutions, overseeing its launch in Asia in 2010.

Rachel Lord said: “We are rapidly transforming our business to match APAC investors’ aspirations. Who we are and what we offer must reflect the region and its needs, so the opportunity to accelerate BlackRock’s APAC business over the next decade is a game changer. I have seen first-hand how our business really takes flight when we get closer to our clients. When I think about what BlackRock can look like in APAC ten, twenty years from now – it’s exciting. APAC is truly one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in the world, and I cannot wait to start.”

Rachel was named BlackRock’s Head of EMEA in 2017; and is a member of the firm’s Global Executive Committee. She chairs the EMEA Executive Committee and serves as Global Executive Sponsor of the Women's Initiative Network (WIN).

Prior to assuming leadership of the firm’s EMEA region, Rachel served as EMEA Head of iShares and Head of Global Clients, ETF and Index Investments. She joined BlackRock in 2013 from Citigroup, where she served as Global Head of Corporate Equity Derivatives, following a 13-year tenure at Morgan Stanley.
