ESG integration is the practice of incorporating financially material environmental, social and governance (ESG) data or information into the investment decision process with the objective of enhancing risk-adjusted returns of our clients’ portfolios. Unless otherwise stated in Fund documentation or included within the Fund's investment objective, inclusion of this statement does not imply that the Fund has an ESG-aligned investment objective or strategy, but rather describes how ESG data or information is considered as part of the overall investment process.

The Fund manager includes ESG considerations in the initial research and screening, Investment Committee and monitoring phases of the investment process. This includes thematic environmental, social and governance information sourced from primary sources, which may be included in the underwriting process. The Investment Committee discloses relevant ESG reporting, where appropriate. The Fund manager conducts regular portfolio risk reviews between the investment team and BlackRock’s Risk and Quantitative Analysis group. These reviews include discussion of portfolio exposure to material environmental, social and governance risks, where appropriate.

Jeff Dunbar, Managing Director, is a Portfolio Manager and member of BlackRock Alternative Advisors (BAA), the firm's Hedge Fund Solutions team. In addition to managing specific client portfolios, he is responsible for the sourcing, performance of due diligence on and monitoring of hedge fund managers.

 

Mr. Dunbar's service with the firm dates back to 2005, including his years at Quellos Group, LLC, of which the alternative investment management business was acquired by BlackRock in 2007. At Quellos, Mr. Dunbar served as a Senior Associate responsible for hedge fund manager sourcing and due diligence along with performing on-going diligence on underlying managers. From 1999 to 2005, he was a Credit and Risk Analyst with Boullioun Aviation Services, an aviation finance subsidiary of Deutsche Bank and later WestLB.

 

Mr. Dunbar earned a BA degree in International Business from Linfield College in 1999

Albert Matriotti, Managing Director, is a member of BlackRock Alternative Advisors (BAA), the firm's Hedge Fund Solutions team. Mr. Matriotti is responsible for evaluating and communicating the causal factors that drive risk in each hedge fund and fund of funds portfolio. In addition, he is responsible for sponsoring internal system developments for a suite of proprietary systems that allow users to integrate and analyze all forms of risk transparency.

 

Mr. Matriotti's service with the firm dates back to 2002, including his years at Quellos Group, LLC, of which the alternative investment management business was acquired by BlackRock in 2007. At Quellos, he was an Associate Director focused on risk management and portfolio analytics.

 

Mr. Matriotti earned a BA degree with a concentration in finance from Seattle University in 2002.
