Head of Investments for BlackRock’s Factor-Based Strategies Group

Ked Hogan, PhD, Managing Director, is the Head of Investments for BlackRock's Factor-Based Strategies Group. He is the Chief Investment Officer for the team’s flagship factor strategies, Market Advantage and Style Advantage.


Dr. Hogan's service with the firm dates back to 1997, including his years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. Previously, Dr. Hogan has served as the head of Thematic Equity Investing for Scientific Active Equities, and as the Head of Equity and Emerging Market Research in the Global Markets Strategies Group. Prior to joining BGI, Dr. Hogan was a professor of finance at McGill University. He has published in many academic journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Quantitative Analysis and the Journal of International Economics. In addition, Dr. Hogan was rewarded the William Sharpe award for the best paper of 2007 in the Journal of Financial Quantitative Analysis.


Dr. Hogan earned a BA degree and PhD both in economics from Arizona State University in 1982 and 1990, respectively.
