Managing Director, Head of Systematic Derivatives

Jack Hattem, CFA, Managing Director, is the lead portfolio manager of the Obsidian Relative Value Strategy (“ORVS”) and Head of Systematic Derivatives. He is responsible for ORVS’ overall investment process and risk budgeting. Additionally, he oversees the development and implementation of derivatives and volatility strategies across the Systematic platform, driving thought leadership and innovation in the sector.

 

Previously, he was the Deputy CIO of The BlackRock Obsidian platform, which included Obsidian, a global fixed income multi-strategy mandate and ORVS. Additionally, he developed and had oversight of the Derivatives Alpha platform within BlackRock's Global Fixed Income group. He began his investment career within BlackRock’s Portfolio Analytics Group before joining the Portfolio Management Group in 2003 where he was head of interest rate derivative strategies. 

 

Mr. Hattem serves on the Board of Directors of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and is a member of the Federal Reserve's Alternative Reference Rates Committee (ARRC). He also serves on the Board of Directors of DOROT, a nonprofit organization addressing the challenges of an aging population. Mr. Hattem co-authored chapters on volatility and benchmark reform within BlackRock’s Guide to Fixed-Income Risk Management (Wiley, 2023). Additionally, he is a regular guest lecturer at Columbia Business School. He earned a BA degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000.
