Mykel Kochenderfer, Ph.D.
Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Stanford University
Mykel Kochenderfer is a senior advisor for the BlackRock AI Labs. He works on decision making under uncertainty, focusing on probabilistic model building, development of planning algorithms, and validation. He is also an associate professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University, where his graduate students work on algorithms and analytical methods for designing robust decision-making systems, spanning from air traffic control to automated driving applications. He is the director of the Stanford Intelligent Systems Laboratory and co-director of the Stanford Center for AI Safety. He has written two textbooks, “Algorithms for Optimization” (MIT Press, 2019) and “Decision Making under Uncertainty: Theory and Application” (MIT Press, 2015). He received his PhD degree from the University of Edinburgh and his BS and MS degrees from Stanford University. He is a third-generation pilot.
