We launched BII in 2011 to leverage BlackRock’s expertise in markets, asset classes, geographies and client segments. BII, headed by BlackRock Vice Chairman Philipp Hildebrand, works in service of two key stakeholder groups:
BII supports our investment teams with original research by a small team headed by Jean Boivin, works with investors to establish the firm’s macro views, and keeps portfolio managers connected and informed by convening internal forums, workshops and calls. These investment debates enable our fund managers to challenge each other’s thinking, share insights and generate new investment ideas. Our portfolio managers, risk professionals, trading experts and researchers span all asset classes, regions and investment styles.
BII’s Investment Strategy team led by Richard Turnill and his chief strategists Kate Moore (equities), Jeff Rosenberg (fixed income) and Isabelle Mateos y Lago (multi asset) identifies key market issues within each asset class. The global team develops actionable views to drive the creation of “Best of BlackRock” market and investment insights to our clients and client-facing professionals. The team has representatives in key markets in North America, Europe. Asia and Latin America.
BII’s small publishing team, headed by Jack Reerink, captures the portfolio manager debates and investment strategy views in internal summaries and client publications.
BlackRock investment professionals from around the world discuss the latest market, policy and trading developments in this daily video conference. The meeting is chaired by a leading portfolio manager in a weekly rotation.
The chair poses a Question of the Week to debate a topical or thematic issue. The entire BlackRock investment community can vote and comment on the question on our internal blog. Results are tallied up and displayed in real time.
We bring together BlackRock experts in forums, workshops and calls to discuss investment topics. They allow portfolio managers to challenge their thinking, refine investment theses, generate new ideas, and share best practices.
