We’re partnering with Girls Who Code to help inspire and train the next generation of female computer programmers – and help close the “gender gap” in the computer science field.

Learn more about Girls Who Code to help inspire and train the next generation of female computer programmers.

As a part of the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program, we hosted 20 female high school students in the New York office for a seven-week program. The students learn the fundamentals of computer science – from robotics to how to build a webpage.

The female students also gained exposure to many of BlackRock’s talented women with technology backgrounds. Every student was paired with a female BlackRock analyst or associate mentor who has a technology-focused background or is currently working in a technology-focused area of our business.

The Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program is designed to be an introduction to computer science for young women. The Immersion Program curriculum focuses on algorithmic thinking, which is foundational to all programming languages and problem solving. During the program, the students learn Scratch, Python, JavaScript, jQuery, and the markup languages HTML and CSS.

Our partnership with Girls Who Code has been a remarkable experience for BlackRock employees as we’ve mentored a group of diverse young women as they learned to code and discovered the possibilities that lie ahead within the technology industry.
