Since 1987, Echoing Green has provided more than 700 promising social entrepreneurs, or ‘Fellows’, working in 75 countries with $40 million in start-up funding, customized support services, and access to their robust global network of connection and support.
Fellows have gone on to launch and lead some of today’s most well-recognized social enterprises throughout the world – including Teach for America, City Year, and One Acre Fund.
The fellowship is open to social entrepreneurs from any part of the world who are deeply connected to the needs and potential solutions that may work best for their communities. In 2016 the class of 33 fellows was selected from a field of over 2,000 applicants. As a first step in engagement, BlackRock employees were involved in reading and rating applications.
Echoing Green has seen a dramatic shift in its applicant pool over the past few years, with approximately 40% of all applicants now working on hybrid or for profit social enterprises, a threefold increase. BlackRock’s support will help Echoing Green expand programming and mentorship tailored specifically for these fellows.
Through this partnership, BlackRock employees will be able to share their expertise, benefitting sustainable businesses in a meaningful way and in line with the firm’s focus on building for the long term.
Supporting the Echoing Green fellowship is part of our strategy to fund innovative programs that accelerate and amplify the impact of entrepreneurs seeking new ways to solve seemingly intractable social problems.
