Steve Sterling, Managing Director, is Head of BlackRock US Private Capital and the Chairman and CEO of BlackRock Capital Investment Corporation ("BCIC"), a US Business Development Company. BCIC offers middle-market companies flexible financing solutions, providing capital to meet their current and future needs while creating long-term partnerships. Prior to this role, Mr. Sterling was the Head of BlackRock Global Capital Markets where he built a global team focused on sourcing and originating corporate debt and equity investments on behalf of portfolio management teams and managed BlackRock's investment activity in the new issue market.
Before joining BlackRock in 2010, Mr. Sterling was a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, where he was responsible for the US credit business and managed credit portfolios for Carlyle, including its credit hedge fund. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Senior Managing Director at Bear Sterns overseeing the High Yield Capital Markets Group. Prior to Bear Stearns, Mr. Sterling was a Managing Director for Lehman Brothers and was responsible for the leverage loan capital markets, sales, trading and portfolio management. Steve began his career with Bank of America where he held various positions within leverage finance and loan syndication (including direct middle market lending).
Mr. Sterling earned a BS degree in finance from California State University, Sacramento in 1985, and an MBA degree in strategic management and finance from the Claremont Graduate School in 1991.
