Mr. Smith is BlackRock’s global head of Human Resources and a member of the Global Executive Committee and Global Operating Committee.
In this capacity, Mr. Smith supports and advises the business, and the Board of Directors, on all aspects of its investment in people and culture and the management of organizational change. He oversees recruiting; compensation; employee benefits and policies; professional, management and leadership development; executive succession planning; and HR operations, technology and services. He also advises the business on the development of corporate diversity and philanthropy strategies.
Mr. Smith’s service with the firm dates back to 2006, including his years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. At BGI he was Global Head of Human Resources. Prior to joining BGI, Mr. Smith was Vice President of People Development at Time Warner. Previously, he was a Senior Consultant at Personnel Decisions International, specializing in executive assessment, leadership development and executive coaching.
Mr. Smith earned a BS degree in psychology from the University of Connecticut in 1992 and received a PhD in industrial-organizational psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1997.
